The last week of September 2003
brought a marvelous display of autumn color to the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Remarkable how the aspen,
one puny species that grows mainly where avalanche or fire occurs, can produce a range of
colors that rivals all the maples and oaks of the eastern forests.
