Cedar Waxwings were rarely seen in central Oklahoma 50 years ago.  But with fire suppression, the Eastern Red Cedar (Juniperus virginiana) has spread across the prairie, providing waxwings with shelter and a food source.  In December 2004, flocks of 50 or more were daily visitors at the water fixture in my backyard.
