I enjoyed my first photo session from the deck of our new mountain cabin in New Mexico in October 2009. Dark-eyed Juncos were abundant. In addition to the Rocky Mountain 'gray-headed race,' we had quite a few 'Oregon' juncos and the one shown here, the 'pink-sided race.' West of the Mississippi, it seems, no two juncos ever look exactly the same. When we returned to the cabin in November, only the 'gray-headed' juncos were present. Did the others move on in their migration?
