I photographed this one-day-old Mountain Plover chick from my car in Weld County Colorado.  Its mother and fellow fledgling were running back and forth along a section road, although they surely would have been safer out there in the prairie.  Mountain Plover is a misnomer.  It is not a bird of the mountains, but rather nests on the rolling, near treeless prairie from New Mexico to Montana.
